About the Role:
The Building and Grounds Supervisor III is responsible for leading the Brightwater Treatment Plant process maintenance and the buildings and grounds team. The team includes gardeners, utility workers, custodians, and several seasonal helpers. The responsibilities for landscaping are both on-site and at nearby pump stations. The utility work includes direct support to Operations which range from routine weekly activities such as safety shower checks or process screen cleaning to membrane repairs and biannual digester cleaning. This role also supports capital project review/implementation, energy and chemical conservation initiatives, and the completion of regulatory tasks and reports. This position will be a key support to Operations and the matrixed Mechanical and Instrumentation/Electrical supervisors at Brightwater. The successful candidate will become an expert on the plant's process maintenance, building maintenance, and grounds maintenance. The selected candidate will use maintenance best practices and help convey the requirements to plant leadership, operators, and maintenance teams.

Approximately 20 million gallons a day of wastewater is treated through primary and secondary treatment followed by disinfection at Brightwater. Brightwater also produces reclaimed water and biosolids. The successful candidate to this position will contribute to our community's environmental sustainability and public health.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing:

  • Supervise and direct the work of lead, skilled trades, semi-skilled trades, and technical support positions assigned to the maintenance program. Supervisory responsibilities include hiring, conducting performance evaluations, training, and recommending disciplinary actions.
  • Supervise the review and coordination of preventative and maintenance practices focused on process equipment, buildings, and grounds including life cycle analysis of equipment and forecasting short- and long-term equipment needs, equipment replacement, and repairs.
  • Develop and implement the team's operating and capital budgets; make recommendations on budget expenditures and monitor expenditures to ensure that the budget is within established guidelines. Develop, implement, and maintain internal maintenance business policies and procedures for all equipment and systems at the treatment plant.
  • Participate in the planning, development, and implementation of systems and/or process improvements to support improved operations and maintenance at the treatment plant.
  • Collaboratively support the continued development, implementation, and maintenance of internal maintenance business policies and procedures for equipment and systems at the treatment plant.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Qualifications You Bring:

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the application of supervisory techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in business practices techniques and principles for process equipment maintenance and cleaning, landscaping maintenance, and buildings and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in maintenance techniques and practices in an industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the application of planning techniques and principles.
  • Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience in life cycle analysis of industrial equipment.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse individuals in varying occupations.
  • Skill in working on multiple projects and assignments simultaneously and coordinating among diverse workgroups.
  • Skill in oral and written communication techniques and principles and apply this skill to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Possession of a Washington State Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Group I.
  • Possession of a Washington State Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Group lII or higher certificate (highly desirable) .

Working Conditions

  • Work Location: Brightwater Treatment Plant, 22505 State Route 9 SE, Woodinville, WA.
  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
  • Union Representation: T his position is represented by Teamsters Local 117-WTD Supervisors bargaining unit.
  • Duration: This recruitment aims to fill a Special Duty Assignment, with a duration of up to one year. King County employees are encouraged to speak with their managers if they are interested in pursuing a Special Duty Assignment.
