Crostini are basically mini toasts and they go down a treat at parties! This Italian appetizer can be served with a vast variety of toppings so you’ll find one to suit everyone’s tastes. These crusty breads are unbelievably easy to make and they look great on a plate. I’ve made them a good few times now and for different events and they really are the perfect party nibbles. They go perfectly with my antipasto platter!

How To Make Crostini

  • Preheat the oven to 375 F.
  • Slice the baguette crosswise into ¼ thick slices, cutting diagonally so that you get the longest slices possible (see the shapes of the slices in the photos).
  • In a small bowl, stir together the butter and olive oil.
  • If you want any flavour additions, mix them into the butter compound now.
  • Use a brush to spread the butter compound onto the top of each slice of bread. Make sure that you are only putting on a thin layer, otherwise the crostini won’t crust up in the oven and they will be slightly spongy instead.
  • Place the slices onto a cookie sheet butter side up.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, until they are toasted and hardened.
  • Remove and cool completely before storing in a container or plastic bags at room temp.
  • Use these in my antipasto platter!

How Long Will Crostini Keep?

Your crostini will last for 3-5 days when stored in an airtight container so don’t panic if you make too much! If needs be, you can always re-crisp your leftovers in the oven for a few minutes if they’ve been left a few days.

Crostini Tips and Tricks

  • Always use quality bakery bread. Crostini appetizers work best with light texture bread, if it’s too dense they might be difficult to chew.
  • Have a gluten-free option available for parties. A lot of people are sensitive to gluten these days, so using a gluten-free baguette is a great way to add a GF option.
  • Make sure the oven temperature is exact, if the oven temp is too low, your crostini slices will be much too hard and maybe even inedible!
  • Add extra flavour with a cut garlic clove, lemon, or orange.

I hope you enjoy this super yum and incredibly easy to make appetizer! Happy baking!
