I'm pleased to announce that I have cleared the CFA Level 1 exam with >90 percentile performance. It is a major achievement for me since my expertise mainly lies in the technology space. I have put in a lot of time and effort into understanding financial concepts and am elated to see the results.I would also like to give a shout-out to GIC (and other similar companies) which provide a sizeable learning budget and allow young adults like us to invest in our growth without hesitation. We really appreciate it and can't wait to repay with the newly gained knowledge :)Most importantly, thank you Percy Wong, Christopher Chan, and Wei-Min for the constant support and motivation. http://shubhamperiwal.com/I finally have a resume website! I've been thinking about building one ever since I got interested in web development and I've started multiple but none of them saw the light of day. Now I have something that is actually live. What was the motivation which actually helped make this one through to the end? I just wanted to improve my web development skills in terms of UI/UX and deployment. I wanted to learn more about designing than building and, most importantly, deploying a website, as these are skills that are extremely fungible and important but yet not taught very well.Luckily, I was able to use my earlier certification on AWS to use features like AWS S3 (to build a static website), AWS CodeDeploy (to automate deployment), and Route 53 (to get a nice domain).I also learned how to improve SEO for a website. That's a skill that's going to come in handy later :) After multiple iterations of my user interface after feedback from friends and family, I learned that tasks such as choosing colors and fonts which I thought would be much simpler were not simple at all. In fact, I took much more time to color the web pages than I took to build them. Massive respect for those doing it on a daily basis. I know I've still got quite a bit to learn so I'd appreciate any constructive feedback that you feel could make the website even better. You can find the code here: https://lnkd.in/ghqJbZR#webdevelopment #aws #resumewebsite

I am proud to announce that as of 1st April 2021, I have joined the Fixed Income - Systematics Investment Group in GIC and changed my functional title to "Quantitative Strategist".It pushes me outside my comfort zone of the Technology Department and is more aligned with my goals of developing deep knowledge across multiple verticals. I am really looking forward to working with the team and starting a new chapter. On that note, I am also happy to say that I have prepared vigorously for and have become a Certified AWS Cloud Practitioner. It has never ceased to amaze me how much cloud services have to offer and I intend to continue to learn more and develop myself outside of work.#QuantitativeStrategist #GIC #AWSCloudPractitioner

I wrote my first medium article today!A few days ago a friend asked for my help with a python project. Since I didn't know how to solve it, I had to spend hours searching for articles and documentations before I could come up with the answer. After solving it, I realised that many others like me would've spent hours searching for the solution since it was a common use case and so I decided to write my first article and publish it on medium to help those fellow wanderers save some time. The article is on how we can dynamically update a plot created using plotly by filtering the data using widgets crafted using ipywidget without using Dash (which was used by most of the other articles I read on the topic).I hope this helps others in the future. You can find the article here:https://lnkd.in/gK4rd4U #python #plotly #ipywidget #medium

Recently I participated in a global data science hackathon held by Covestro at Carnegie Mellon University. It was an amazing weekend full of flourishing ideas and good food. We got to work on real-world problems as the use cases were problems Covestro was currently facing. It was extremely exciting. Our problem was to build a model that learns from 190 images and predicts the product quality for 100 other images. We used transfer learning to make up for the lack of data and built a relatively accurate model. Fortunately, we were able to clinch first place in the CMU round of the hackathon. This led us to the global round in Germany on 12th December where we stood second among teams that competed from Germany, China, and the US. It was really exciting to travel and present our solution to 200 people at the #Chemalytix conference and meet so many brilliant people. More than that, we also got to sit in for all the enlightening talks at the conference.Thank you #Covestro for this wonderful opportunity and kudos to my teammates Tejas Mehta Manash Pratim Daniel V. Yibo Z. and Qingyang (Ernest) Zhang. Let's keep up the good work! Thank you Angela Beck Daniel Schultz and Devin Ulam for your support! Over the summer, I did a course on Machine Learning in Python on Eckovation, a social learning platform. The course consisted of everything from the basics of linear algebra to deep learning. It also contained 2 projects in the end, one was building a model to recognize Devanagari characters and the other was also using deep learning to recognize hand gestures and overlay corresponding emoticons on the image. You can find the 2 projects and their demos here:Emojinator: https://lnkd.in/f4iUV6xDevanagari Recognition: https://lnkd.in/fxJjF9cIt was a very exciting journey because it focused on the algorithms instead of the Python implementation and made things very clear for me. The next step is to work for a couple of weeks on a machine learning model to predict statistical arbitrage opportunities in NSE based on the 2016 data. I would really like to than Govinda Das and Chetan Madan for their constant support!#MachineLearning #DeepLearning

This week marked the end of my internship at #GIC. I never thought I could learn such a wide array of tools and technologies in a short span of 10 weeks. I am glad to receive projects on software development, load testing, and Payment Analytics.I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to pick up Hadoop, Airflow, and C# among a host of other tools.Extremely thankful to Wee Chong Ong and Kelvin Sim for being amazing supervisors and mentors throughout the internship. Also thankful to all the co-interns who turned from colleagues into friends.Looking forward to the next big thing in life!#SoftwareDevelopment #DataScience #Internship #Hadoop #Airflow
